Welcome to 'We Are IIS'
|
'We Are IIS' is a student driven, student operated, independent group with no official ties to the Ramkhamhaeng IIS administration. Nor do we receive any funding from the Ramkhamhaeng IIS administration or any form of government funding.
We, as in you and I, are us, meaning that we are responsible for what is on this site. It is important to share your opinions here as only you can let all of us know that you are happy or unimpressed with the IIS or the weriis.com website.
|

|
|
The purpose of 'We Are IIS' is not to represent students or associations, but to allow students, lecturers, former students, future students and staff, past and future staff, to represent us, the people of the IIS, both within the institution and externally, including on local and national issues. 'We Are IIS' also strives to provide a variety of services specific to students and lecturers in such a way as to provide future and current students information on degree requirements, Visa issues, administration issues and advisors. To create cohesive groups of students is a primary focus of We Are IIS. Providing information on groups, sports clubs, events, societies as well as facilitating opportunities to students, staff and lecturers who wish to create types of groups is of particular concern to 'We Are IIS'.

Throughout my studies at the IIS I have had to write more than my fair share of reports, essays, executive summaries, and research papers. This in itself is a challenging prospect and gathering credible research on each topic was my first hurdle.
Surely I just go and type in what I’m after in Google or Wikipedia, and hey presto! I have what I need.

An Institute of International Studies is a true melting pot of people of races and places and all that other good stuff, and it is quite common to hear a variety of languages as you mill around the corridor, have a quick fag up on the roof, or grab some grub under the trees. Here at the IIS the medium of choice is English. Now this can be American English, British English, Australian English, Afro-English, or Thinglish. Quite frankly, I don’t give a flying duck. What does cook my goose, however, is the English used to build a course around, which in turn the whole degree is based upon.

Why do Thais allow stupid people to equate Thai with Dumb?
I have heard many times over the past year a stupid Thai saying, "but I am Thai." Ok, after all they are a stupid person so they can't be held responsible for what they say. My question is why Thai’s put up with this crap. Thai's are not stupid. Stupid people are stupid. Lots of Americans, British and Canadians are Stupid that does not make them Thai!

Free Electives Stolen!
Many students were amazed when they requested schedules in regard to the classes they were required to fulfill in order to complete their degrees. Once they received their unofficial transcripts from the administration office they noticed that some of their free electives were already selected and completed.

A lot of my previous posts have been somewhat negative, so I thought it was time to get off the cranky wagon and start to offer something more positive for everyone to enjoy. One thing I believe is that everyone has something to offer. When I was younger I used to be amazed from the fact that I could learn something from a 2-year old. Don’t laugh, I am serious.

The Cause and effects of a bad Educator
“The difference between good teachers and great teachers is good teachers are capable of putting what is suppose to be learned into the student’s mind, great teachers are capable of bringing out that which is supposed to be learned from the student’s mind.“

Whichever country you come from and whatever your nationality you should have good manners and proper conducts.
I'm a sophomore student in Mass Communication this year. I'm glad that I’m studying here in Ramkamhaeng. I like the environment different faces, different colors, and different cultures. However I was so disappointed because some of the students didn't know how to respect their classmates or their foreign classmates. For instance...

In Thailand, cheating is the status quo. How can the west do business with Thailand when their culture has no ethics and is amoral?
" It could mean that you have a higher quality of education but that is more than often not the case here in Thailand. For the most part what it means is that you are better at cheating. Cheating has become an epidemic in Thailand."

My name’s Tom.
I’m at Ramkhamhaeng’s IIS and my name’s Tom.
Now, you may be thinking, ‘Who cares what your name is? Just get to the point for Christ’s sake.’ But, the point is my name. Now I know that there are students who have a hard time at Ramkhamhaeng due to the lecturers, the office staff, or themselves. I for one am one of these students, or should I say was one of these students. In my first semester all I seemed to do was bitch and moan about everything. I put it down to being British, but after a while I noticed a change in my attitude. This change was brought about by a simple effective act – I learnt the names’ of the office staff.

What the Hell? Are you Stupid or what?
I am not sure if people actually read the schedules or if they read the schedules and just don’t give a fuck, but I have never seen a more irresponsibly incompetent, disrespectful schedule in my life. I pay for these classes and the administration is blatantly saying “screw you, it’s not your business, it’s ours!” There is no wonder to me why university degrees in Thailand are useless! The administration for the IIS Ramkhamhaeng University is the greatest hindrance one has toward their education.

IIS – Institute of International Studies NOT the International Institute of Studies
One thing I am having a difficult time understanding in regard to the IIS is the fact that we have no representation nor does there seem to be any organized efforts in regard to a the formation of organized representation.
Is it just me or is there an absence of student representation by students? On one occasion last semester I was informed by a colleague that they were the class representative for our batch of students. This kind of caught me off-guard a little bit as I did not see any form of political media in any form of posters or voting or ... well anything.
